Guinness: 'Carolina Reapers' are hottest peppers ever

The Guinness Book of World Records says the hottest peppers in the world are in South Carolina.

The peppers are being grown by Ed Currie who, as of December 26, 2013, holds the title for farming the spiciest peppers -- ever.

Currie calls them "Carolina Reapers" because of the punch the peppers pack. Guinness says a batch they tested registered at nearly 1.6 million Scoville heat units.

For comparison, a regular jalapeno pepper registers about 5,000 Scoville heat units. Pepper spray weighs in at about 2 million.
