Two Bay Area high school bands headed to London

LONDON

The Pittsburg High School marching band is leaving for England. The band is taking part in London's New Year's Day parade that will be seen around the world.

The Contra Costa Times reports students raised at least $80,000 to pay for the eight day trip. This isn't the first time the Pittsburg marching band has been invited to play in a world-class city. In 2009, band members performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.

The Oak Grove High School band in San Jose is also headed to London for the New Year's Day Parade. Earlier this month, a thief stole $5,000 from a weekly bingo game - the band's biggest fundraiser. An online bingo website later replaced that stolen money.
