The Sacramento Valley Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations announced on Thursday that local mosques will offer a prayer for rain on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Catholic TV station in Fresno plans to start airing commercials soon, asking folks to pray for rain in the San Joaquin Valley.
The state's Catholic bishops have also urged parishioners to pray, to help farmers cope with the driest year on record so far.
Also on Thursday, Gov. Jerry Brown pledged to work with farmers to get more water to parched fields, but he said quote, "Governors can't make it rain."
