San Francisco to launch plan aimed to plant more trees

SAN FRANCISCO

The city will unveil its Urban Forest Plan on Wednesday.

It calls for planting a lot more trees.

Right now, San Francisco has about 700,000 trees, covering just 13 percent of the city. The plan wants to grow that to 25 percent.

Also, the city wants to take over the maintenance of all trees on city streets from property owners reversing what's been happening since the budget cuts of 2007.

The annual cost is estimated at $20 million.
