Hauth, a Petaluma resident, was driving a two-seat, 1960s-style 2003 Cobra kit car on westbound D Street east of San Antonio Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Hauth lost control of the convertible when he sped up to pass another vehicle on the rural road around 10:50 a.m., CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.
The sports car ran off the road and overturned before it stopped upside down and blocked the roadway, Sloat said.
Hauth, the only occupant in the car, was wearing a lap belt and remained inside the car, Sloat said.
He was pronounced dead at 11:13 a.m. and an autopsy was under way Friday morning to determine his cause of death, according to the coroner's office.
