Relatives of San Lorenzo man killed by deputy speak out

SAN LORENZO, Calif.

Last Monday, 60-year-old David Goins was shot and killed inside his house.

Deputies were called after Goins, who was recovering from brain surgery, allegedly assaulted paramedics.

Family members say their father was a good man with issues.

"I can't call him again," said his son, Richard Goins. "I can't ask him for help. My grandkids can't see him no more. And I just want justice to be served the right way for my father. And I want you guys to know the man that he really was."

Sheriff officials say Goins hit a deputy with a baseball bat, prompting the deputy to fire.

An attorney, however, says deputies should have waited before creating a confrontation.
