Top music producer predicts best song Oscar winner

Two of the nominees have already gone platinum, selling a million copies. The first to do it was "Let It Go." The song is from the movie "Frozen," produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. "Let It Go" is considered by some to be the front runner, but multi-platinum producer, Narada says Academy Award voters are unpredictable.

"They may take outside nods for temperature gauge, you know, what's hot. But they really don't care," he said.

Narada's recording studio is in Marin County. He has won 3 Grammys, an Emmy and has been nominated for an Oscar; working with many of the world's biggest stars. He listened to the nominated songs and told ABC7 News what he thought.

The song "Ordinary Love" is from the movie "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom." It is written and performed by the chart-topping band, U2.

"I don't really hear much of the spirit of Mandela necessarily or the sound of Mandela, which would reflect to me to go, 'Oh yeah, this is an African movement,'" said Narada.

"The Moon Song" from the movie "Her" is sung by actress Scarlett Johansson, who plays the voice of a computer operating system.

"Even though she's kind of like half singing the song that is part of the charm of the song. It's partly out of tune a little bit. It's part of the charm of the song, it fits the film," said Narada. But he does not think "The Moon Song" is going to be the winner.

Narada is predicting "Happy" from the movie "Despicable Me 2" will take home the Oscar. "Happy" was certified platinum just last week. It is written by Pharrell Williams.

Narada said Pharrell is a brilliant cat.

"Pharrell, it's his time. He won producer of the year at the Grammys. And, you know with Daft Punk and "I'm Feeling Lucky," he's just got a gift," he said.

All four of the nominated songs will be performed live during the Academy Awards show, so even if you haven't seen the movies, you can still judge for yourself.
