Photo shows Twitter engineers during Oscars crash

SAN FRANCISCO

Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres got Bradley Cooper to take a group photo with several A-listers then tweeted it. Twitter crashed for about 20 minutes around 7 p.m. but in less than an hour, the selfie became the most retweeted photo ever.

Twitter engineers appeared to be having breakdowns themselves as they tried to get the site back up and running. Software engineer Brian Wickman tweeted a photo of some on-call engineers trying to get the site up and running and one word summed it up -- "gulp."

Twitter later sent out an apology for the disrupted service, and even congratulated Ellen on breaking the record.
