Officers used a flash bang grenade and seconds later there was the sound of gunfire. This happened on San Pedro Avenue, hours after the standoff began.
It started when family members called police to say their son was armed with an axe and displaying paranoia behavior. The neighborhood was evacuated.
After six hours, a SWAT team entered and the man stabbed one of the SWAT team members. Other SWAT officers opened fire, killing the man.
The injuries to the SWAT member who was stabbed were non-life threatening.
