IRS turning out slightly higher refunds

The agency has already paid out $73 million in tax refunds averaging $2,831 per person, a 1.5 percent increase over last year.

The IRS has received nearly 91 million returns so far; 91 percent of them were filed electronically.

Another reason you might not get your refund check is thieves who steal the checks right out of your mailbox or worse yet, they file for you and have the refund sent to their mail box.

Protect yourself by requesting direct deposit and by keeping track of your refund's progress through the IRS system.
