FREMONT, Calif. -- BART service has resumed Tuesday afternoon on the Fremont line after a small fire at a substation shut down service between Hayward and Fremont, an agency spokesman said.
The fire was reported at 12:10 p.m. at a substation in the Hayward Maintenance Complex, BART spokesman Taylor Huckaby said.
The blaze was quickly put out, but "out of an abundance of caution," crews shut down power to the electric third rail on the tracks, Huckaby said.
Service was restored as of about 1:40 p.m. and trains were running again in both directions on the Fremont line, according to BART officials.
