Roads reopen after report of man with rifle in Berkeley Marina area

BERKELEY, Calif. -- Police searched for hours after they received a report of a man with a rifle near the Berkeley Marina on Tuesday.

Police reopened West Frontage Road, and all other roads in the area that had been closed while they searched for the man.

Berkeley police received several reports starting at 12:19 p.m. of a man on the pedestrian overcrossing near West Frontage Road carrying what appeared to be a rifle, police Sgt. Andrew Frankel said.

He was last seen walking into McLaughlin Eastshore State Park and was described as a white or Hispanic man in his 40s who was wearing a yellow
shirt, Frankel said.

Frankel said California Highway Patrol officers, including a helicopter crew, and East Bay Regional Park District police helped search for the man.

Anyone with information about this man is urged to call the Berkeley Police Department.
