PHOTOS: Dogs compete for top honors at Westminster Dog Show

NEW YORK -- America's top dog show, The Westmister Dog Show, started Monday with 2,711 dogs that come in 192 breeds and varieties.

The Westminster app will give viewers a live look at each of the dogs entered.

Far-flung fans from small island off the coast of Australia to a hotel veranda overlooking the ocean in Nicaragua say they're planning to watch the breed competition that begins Monday.

The Westminster show started in 1877. The event has become more tech savvy in recent times, and last year hired a social media company to oversee its online presence.

Westminster says fans watched streaming video last February from 168 countries, including Kenya, Libya and Uzbekistan.

This year's winner will be chosen Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
