ANTIOCH, Calif. -- The Antioch Water Park reopened Saturday after a chemical malfunction left dozens of visitors feeling ill on Thursday.
The sport pool, where the malfunction occurred, will remain closed while the city and county continue to test the water, park officials said.
Fire crews initially responded to the park on reports of a child with respiratory problems around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
A total of 34 visitors reported feeling sickness Thursday afternoon after swimming in the park's sport pool. Half of them were sent to the hospital and released later that evening according to a spokesman for the Contra Costa County Health Services Department.
According to park spokeswoman Nancy Kaiser, officials with the Contra Costa County Environmental Health Department completed their inspection of the facility on Friday evening and approved the park to open for business again on Saturday. The park's pool chemistry was recorded in compliance with state law.
