Rain causes Antioch roof to collapse narrowly missing family
Heavy rain causes a roof in Antioch to collapse narrowly missing the family inside.

ANTIOCH, Calif. (KGO) -- Bay Area storms were so strong they created rain surges throughout the day. In Antioch, a leaking roof made a ceiling to collapse and nearly injured a mother and her two toddlers.

Paulosha Glasper says her 1-year-old, Maelianna, was sitting on a chair and her 2-year-old, Mahniya, was running around the coffee table as the rain poured outside.

"And I heard this noise, and when I looked around my roof was hanging," Glasper said. "There was a hole up there, so I could see outside of the building. So all the rain was coming in."

She quickly got on the phone to call maintenance, but it was too late.

"The whole thing caved in," she said. "The wood fell. One piece dropped on the computer. The other piece hit the TV and cracked it in half."

The damage was confined to the living room, so the family is still able to stay there Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Glasper is trying to get over the fact that she and her children narrowly escaped injury.

Maintenance workers say a leak in the roof allowed rain to pool up in the ceiling until the sudden weight of the water caused it to collapse.
