SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Many Bay Area residents have seen BART's new train cars and now, they're getting a chance to see San Francisco Muni's next fleet of street cars.

The city's Municipal Transportation Authority board of directors will vote next Tuesday to buy 261 light rail vehicles. They're built by "Siemens," which has a manufacturing plant located just 90 miles away in Sacramento.

The $1.1 billion order of new Muni Metro cars will replace the existing fleet of Breda light rail vehicles. Muni anticipates deliveries to begin by the end of 2016.

The cars will first see service on the new Central Subway line.
