WASHINGTON (KGO) -- Less than a year after her death, the U.S. postal service is honoring world-renowned activist and poet Maya Angelou with her own Forever Stamp.

A dedication ceremony got underway Tuesday morning in Washington, D.C.

First Lady Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey were on hand to honor Angelou.

The ceremony didn't go off without a hitch. Winfrey was in the middle of her speech when the lights went out due to a power outage in the D.C. area.

But Oprah didn't skip a beat. She continued on, honoring Angelou, calling her a "phenomenal woman."
