December deadline given to Oakland to submit plans to keep Raiders

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- The festive holiday season just turned serious for Oakland city leaders. If they want to keep the Oakland Raiders here, they need to come up with a plan by December 28.

That's the deadline NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has set, according to ABC7 News partners, the Bay Area News Group.

The three cities that stand to lose their teams to Southern California must submit proposals to build new stadiums by December 28. He wants to know what the home markets are willing to do.

Oakland is offering less public money than San Diego and St. Louis. Oakland is also about $400 million short on paying for a new stadium.

City council member Larry Reid says this new deadline means Oakland needs to step it up that the city is clearly behind.

Mayor Libby Schaaf was not reached for comment, but she has said that she still needs a couple of months to prepare a plan.
