SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A veteran law professor at UC Hastings is being recognized for his skill outside of the classroom and courtroom.

Professor George Bisharat, also known as "Big Harp George," is nominated for Best New Artist Album at the Blues Music Awards.

George sings and plays chromatic harmonica. It's larger than the standard harmonica often featured in blues, allowing "Big Harp George" to innovate.

"Not everybody likes it and it doesn't meet everybody's taste," he said. "But at least a critical mass of people seem to think wow this is kinda different, this is refreshing.'"

The awards ceremony is Thursday in Memphis.
