Crews contain 3-alarm grass fire that prompted evacuations in Vacaville, officials say

VACAVILLE, Calif. (KGO) -- Forward progress of a three-alarm grass fire burning near the intersection of Vineyard Hills Court and Vine Street in Vacaville has been stopped, fire officials say.

Vacaville Fire Department officials say the 5-acre fire was reported at 5:24 p.m. and was threatening homes.

Vacaville police say approximately 100 homes were evacuated on Saturday and as of 6:20 p.m., officials are working to have residents return.

Markham Street, Vine Street and Vineyard Hills and AltaMira were closed due to the blaze.

Multiple agencies responded to the fire, including Fairfield, Dixon, Vaca Fire Protection District, and CAL FIRE. In addition, Rio Vista and Suisun City Fire Departments are providing coverage for the City of Vacaville while Vacaville fire crews are on scene.
