Woman killed, man injured in early morning San Jose shooting

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Two people suffered injuries after a shooting Sunday morning in East San Jose, according to police.

Around 6:30 a.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of Lavonne Avenue after learning a person had been shot, police said.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man and a woman both suffering from gunshot wounds. The pair was taken to a hospital, according to police.

The woman however was pronounced dead a short while later.

The man's injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.

The identity of the female victim has not been released pending notification of her family.

This is the City's 40th homicide of 2016.

No arrests were made and no suspects have been identified. Officers are continuing to investigate the shooting, according to police.
