Burlingame faces lawsuit over sewer

BURLINGAME, CA

An official with the environmental group called the Baykeeper says the nonprofit will file a federal lawsuit Monday seeking to force the city to invest more aggressively in fixing its sewer pipes.

The group claims Burlingames's sewer system frequently spills raw sewage onto city streets.

Baykeeper also alleges that the treatment plant illegally discharged more than 10 million gallons of wastewater into the bay over the past 16 years.

Burlingame officials have said in the past the city is spending millions of dollars on trying to repair the system.
