Two arrested in connection with break-ins

SAN FRANCISCO

Officers stopped a 1992 Saturn sedan on Monday in the area of Haight and Stanyan streets and determined the car was stolen, then found purses, prescription drugs, CDs, a coin collection, credit cards and packages wrapped for delivery inside the vehicle, police said.

Some of the packages were unopened, and police believe they were taken from residential doorsteps.

Officers also recovered burglary tools and multiple sets of keys that had been altered to be used in various vehicles, police said.

San Francisco residents Kenneth Rael, 26, and Corina Shortal, 28, were taken into custody around 2 p.m. Monday and booked into county jail, police said.

Rael is being held on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of burglary tools and parole violation. Shortal is being held on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of burglary tools, possession of stolen property and possession of prescription medications.
