$1,000 reward for info. on playground arson

LOS GATOS, CA

The playground equipment was completely destroyed by flames around 3 a.m. Wednesday in a fire that is being investigated by Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department and the Santa Clara County Fire Department as arson.

There are no suspects, but the park and playground are commonly used as a late-night gathering place by teens, according to police.

"This isn't an accident; this is an intentional act to maliciously destroy this playground, for absolutely no reason," Chief Scott Seaman said. "Someone has information about who did this, and we are partnering with CrimeStoppers to offer a reward for anonymous information."

CrimeStoppers is a non-profit organization in Santa Clara County that offers cash rewards for information leading to an arrest.

To qualify for a reward, a person must call (408) 947-STOP and leave information about the crime, as well as personal information so they can be contacted if an arrest is made.

"I ask anyone with information about this arson to call CrimeStoppers and give us the tip that will help us solve this crime, Seaman said.
