The paper's management will meet with leaders of the Writers Guild Monday to discuss how many jobs will be cut; estimates are between 150 and 225.
The layoffs became possible when the Guild, the paper's largest union, agreed to extraordinary labor concessions on Saturday. It allows the /*Chronicle*/ to lay off workers with no regard to seniority.
The paper's parent company, Hearst, warned if costs were not cut dramatically, the Chronicle would either be sold or closed.
The paper lost $50 million last year, and is expected to lose even more this year.
