The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. March 10 near the intersection of Anza Street and 40th Avenue, in the city's Richmond District.

According to police, a green 1996 four-door Toyota traveling west on Anza Street struck the man as was he was unloading his own parked vehicle.

The man was thrown onto the hood of the Toyota and hit the windshield, and the driver drove off, police said.

The victim remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to Sgt. Jennifer Forrester of the Police Department's hit-and-run detail.

The suspect vehicle was later found abandoned at 25th Avenue and California Street, Forrester said.

No information was available about the driver, but police are asking anyone with information to contact Forrester at (415) 553-1640 or, during non-business hours, the police operations center at (415) 553-1071.
