CA lawmakers consider selling San Quentin

SAN QUENTIN, CA

Senator Jeff Denham and Assemblyman Jared Huffman are sponsoring bills to block the governor's plan to expand death row and then sell the prison.

The lawmakers believe the prison could fetch as much as $2 billion from developers even in the midst of the housing bust.

San Quentin is considered the costliest and most decrepit of all the state's prisons.

It cost $260 million a year to operate.

Plus, Denham says, he doesn't believe prisoners should have waterfront property.
