The fire was reported at about 4:30 p.m. at Sims Metal Management, an appliance recycling facility located at 30104 Industrial Parkway Southwest. Hayward fire Battalion Chief Garrett Contreras said the blaze was controlled at about 5:30 p.m.

Residents one mile east of the facility were notified of a shelter-in-place, due to possible hazardous materials being released, but the warning was lifted at about 5:45 p.m., Contreras said.

He said televisions, microwaves and refrigerators were among items that burned in the fire.

Crews remained at the scene at about 6:30 p.m. searching for hotspots and investigating the cause of the blaze.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
