Officers responded to reports of a crash on southbound Highway 880 just north of Broadway at around 11:40 p.m., CHP Officer John Short said.
A preliminary report indicates that one vehicle was being driven in the wrong direction on Highway 880 when it crashed with a second vehicle, killing one person, Short said.
Three left lanes were blocked for more than two hours.
A Sig-alert was issued at 12:04 a.m. and canceled at around 2:15 a.m.
The crash is still under investigation.
