It started in an area right next to the Richmond Parkway at Giant Road around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
The fire came right up to a backyard of a San Pablo home, but fire crews managed to stop it at the fence line.
Traffic was stopped for miles as firefighters battled the flames. The road closure caused a significant backup for late afternoon commuters.
