Detectives search for man who attempted abduction

ALAMEDA CO.

According to sheriff's detectives, the girl was walking toward the school on Cull Canyon Road just north of Crown Canyon Road between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Friday when a man in a dark red or maroon, four-door sedan pulled up next to her.

Detectives said the man repeatedly asked the girl to get into his car and drove alongside her for several hundred feet.

But the girl declined the man's repeated offers and hurried to the middle school, where she notified the principal and ultimately the sheriff's office, detectives said.

Investigators described the suspect as a Hispanic man who is about 40 years old and has short black hair, dark skin and a goatee, and was unshaven. He was reportedly wearing a bright yellow zip-up hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and a gold watch with a gold band.

Authorities said the suspect's vehicle is similar to a Ford Taurus and is dark red or maroon with a small spoiler on the rear truck lid. It has gray stock rims, a black cloth interior and bucket seats.

The girl said there was a black gym bag or duffel bag on the front passenger seat and a medium-sized white teddy bear sitting upright on the rear passenger seat, the sheriff's office said.

Sheriff's officials said any similar incidents should be reported to Detective Sean McMillan at (510) 225-5941.
