Police employ K-9 to capture fleeing suspect

OAKLAND, Calif.

At 10:51 a.m., Oakland police officers tried to pull over a stolen vehicle on a small roadway off of MacArthur Boulevard near Mills College, Officer Johnna Watson said.

The driver tried to pull away from police but crashed nearby, and then ran from the officers on foot.

He jumped a fence at the school, and Oakland police asked for assistance from Emeryville police and their police dog.

"He basically surrendered to the Emeryville police K-9," Watson said.

Watson said the man arrested is a parolee, and the car he was driving was stolen out of Concord. The man, whose name was not immediately available, was taken into custody at 11:32 a.m.
