The accident was reported around 5:45 p.m. Saturday about 20 feet from Bodega Head, Coast Guard Petty Officer Roybal said Sunday morning.
Crews from the Coast Guard and the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office searched for the man by boat and helicopter but were unable to locate him, Roybal said.
The man was standing on a cliff overlooking the bay with a friend when the fall occurred, according to the Coast Guard.
Sonoma County Sheriff's deputies continue to investigate the incident.
