A woman who was struck and killed by a California Highway Patrol motorcycle when she apparently ran across an Oakland boulevard Friday night has been identified as a 43-year-old Oakland woman, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau.

Robin Johnson was struck by the motorcycle on West MacArthur Boulevard, near Market Street around 10 p.m. Friday, according to the CHP.

CHP Sgt. Roberto Barrera was driving a 2004 BMW patrol motorcycle and traveling west on West MacArthur Boulevard when Johnson apparently stepped off the sidewalk and began running across the traffic lanes and directly into the path of the patrol motorcycle, according to the CHP.

Johnson suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital where she died, according to the coroner's bureau.

Barrera was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the road, suffering moderate injuries.

He was also taken to a hospital where he was treated and later released.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact the CHP at (510) 450-3821 or Oakland police at (510) 777-3333.
