Robbery suspects in custody, school lockdowns lifted

SAN JOSE, Calif.

The robbery occurred at about 1:15 p.m. when two men armed with guns entered a Wells Fargo bank at 2061 Camden Ave. and demanded cash, San Jose police Officer Jose Garcia said.

The suspects took the money and fled on foot, he said. One was arrested nearby a short time later and had a loaded gun on him, Garcia said.

As police searched for the second suspect, six schools and the Cambrian School District offices were told to either go on lockdown or shelter in place.

Police found the second suspect in a car on Interstate Highway 880 near Brokaw Road and arrested him at about 2:30 p.m.

Officers recovered cash from the car, and found a second gun in another location, Garcia said.

The bank is located at the Camden Park Shopping Center at the intersection of Camden and Union avenues.

"It is a bold act to commit a serious crime of this nature in broad daylight in the shopping center," Garcia said.

He said witnesses' descriptions of the suspects helped police make the arrests.

The schools affected were Oster Elementary School, Ida Price Middle School, Camden Community Day School, ALTC Preschool & Extended Care Inc., Fammatre Charter Elementary School and St. Francis Cabrini Elementary School, police said.
