18 laptops stolen from school, inside job suspected

SAN BRUNO, Calif.

It happened at El Crystal School during a break-in sometime after 10 p.m. Thieves cut the lock on a fence and broke a window to unlock a door. The principal says 22 MacBook Pros were taken from a locked, unmarked cabinet. Four of the laptops were dropped outside the building:

"I believe they knew the lay of the land. They knew where they were kept. They knew exactly which cart they had the Macbook Pros in it. They knew how to unlock the door. They knew that it had a latch inside and they knew what time the custodian was off," Principal Skip Johnson said.

The loss is estimated at over $20,000 for the laptops and closer to $40,000 total with software included.
