Stanford students study birds in flight for robot

PALO ALTO, Calif.

They shot video of humming birds and other birds in flight using an ultra-high-speed camera that shoots 3,300 frames per second. In their true speed, these images are so quick, our eyes miss them.

Students hope this research will help them design a flapping-winged robot that's as nimble as a bird, a nd more maneuverable than current robots.

And they hope to learn something about birds in the process.
