1 killed, 2 injured in crash on I-580 in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif.

Shortly before 7:40 p.m., a gold Chevrolet Malibu was traveling east on I-580 near the Keller Avenue ramp when it went off the road and crashed into a tree, the CHP said.

The three people in the Chevrolet were trapped in the wreckage following the collision. Emergency crews extricated the two passengers from the vehicle, according to the CHP.

The driver was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. The passengers -- an adult and a child -- were taken to the local hospitals, the CHP said.

The adult passenger sustained major injuries and was transported to Highland Hospital. The child had been properly restrained in a car seat and sustained only minor injuries. She was transported to Children's Hospital Oakland, according to the CHP.

Both hospitalized victims were awake and conscious when they were transported, the CHP said.
