South Bay water district may approve water usage reduction

On Tuesday, the Santa Clara Valley Water District's board of directors is expected to approve a 20 percent reduction in water use, double what the agency first requested last month.

If it happens, the reduction would be the district's largest cutback since it requested a 25 percent cut during the 1987-1992 drought.

The conservation order could lead to everything from new restrictions on lawn watering to temporary hikes in water rates.
