Americans will spend more on Valentine's Day this year

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Some people say love hurts. And, at least on Valentine's Day, it can hurt in the pocketbook.

ABC reports the average person will spend $142 dollars on Valentine's Day this year.

That's $8, or 5.5 percent more than last year.

Here's the kicker that women might like -- men spend twice as much as women spoiling their special someone.
