One of the people on board a yacht motoring near the eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge contacted the Coast Guard at 5:20 p.m. to report that there was a possible exhaust leak on the boat. While on the line with the officer, the boat passenger reported that there were now flames onboard, a Coast Guard officer said.
A rescue boat was dispatched to the boat's location, but before it arrived all three yacht passengers jumped into the bay, a Coast Guard officer said. A passing boat collected them from the waters, which is where the Coast Guard rescue boat found them 5 minutes later.
None of the passengers were injured, and the rescue boat returned them to the Emeryville marina, the Coast Guard reported.
A San Francisco Fire Department boat responded to extinguish the boat fire, the Coast Guard reported.
