Dozens have historic designations, but preservationists say California's ongoing budget crisis is dangerous to parklands that are in need of $1 billion worth of deferred maintenance.
Other sites that made the list include New York's lower east side and the Kansas schoolhouse that launched the landmark Brown versus Board of Education Supreme Court decision.
