A two-alarm fire that burned a house in San Mateo on Friday night caused an estimated $400,000 in damage, according to the fire department.

Flames were visible from the second floor when firefighters responded just before 9 p.m. to the single-family dwelling at 721 Edgewood Road, fire officials said.

A second alarm was quickly sounded and firefighters controlled the blaze by 9:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported, according to the fire department.

Fire crews determined the blaze originated between the kitchen and a second floor bathroom but the cause remains under investigation.

The home was being remodeled and the fire left two adults and three children displaced, fire officials said.
