Police investigate beating of Novato teen girl

SAN RAFAEL, CA

Police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said the beating victim might have alerted police that Curtis Lawrence Anderson, 19, of Novato, is seen on MySpace.com kissing a 13-year-old girl.

That 13-year-old Novato girl allegedly was among 10 girls who assaulted the 16-year-old girl at Mission and Grand avenues around 8:30 p.m. after the market on May 22 in retaliation for implicating Anderson, police said. The 13-year-old girl was arrested at her middle school in Novato and has been booked into juvenile hall, Rohrbacher said.

The 16-year-old girl suffered cuts and bruises but was not taken to a hospital, Rohrbacher said.

Anderson was arrested April 15. He faces six felony charges and one misdemeanor charge in connection with the alleged sexual assault on a minor. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Marin County Superior Court. He is being held in the county jail under $150,000 bail.

Rohrbacher said police also are trying to obtain a video of the beating that might have been taken by a 14-year-old girl but her father is reluctant to make it available because he fears for his daughter's safety.
