AT&T Park wins sports awards

SAN FRANCISCO

Home to the San Francisco Giants since 2000, the park received the award as part of the inaugural Sports Business Awards, which were presented in New York City on Thursday.

Other awards went to Ron Wellman of Wake Forest University for Athletic Director of the Year, Fox Sports for Sports Media of the Year and the Boston Red Sox for Professional Sports Team of the Year.

Awards were presented for a total of 11 categories and the winners were chosen from more than 450 entries.

AT&T Park was up against fellow-nominees John Paul Jones Arena at the University of Virginia, the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., and the University of Phoenix Stadium.

AT&T Park originally opened as Pacific Bell Park and was renamed SBC Park before getting the new name in 2006. The park hosted last season's Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
