On Tuesday an un-identified woman was found, inside the hospital with a washcloth stuffed in her mouth.
Initially police were investigating it as a possible assault, but Thursday morning a spokeswoman for the hospital tells ABC7 the woman was very ill and depressed and tried to take her own life.
She was hospitalized at the medical center's California street campus at the time of the incident, and has since been transferred to the intensive care unit at the Webster Street campus.
She is currently listed in critical condition.
