TSA expands registered traveler program

The Transportation Security Administration announced Thursday it is expanding its registered traveler program beyond the 20 airports where it was tested.

It is also eliminating government security and background checks and the $28 fee that went with them. The three companies selling the airport fast passes will now be responsible for conducting their own checks.

All three Bay Area airports already offer fast track security.
