District Attorney Kamala Harris said she launched the program because of the consequences of so many children being exposed to so much violence.
"It's the same thing we recognize with our soldiers coming back from war; when you're exposed to violence, it has an impact physiologically, which impacts ability to be able to concentrate and to be engaged and be social," Harris said.
Workshops are being led by Stanford University professor Dr. Victor Carrion, an expert in childhood Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders.
