Public split over Golden Gate barrier

SAN FRANCISCO

The Bridge District has spent the last two months asking people to submit their comments about the idea. Of the more than 4,000 people that answered a questionnaire, 50.13 percent favored some type of barrier, and 49.87 percent wanted no barrier at all.

When asked which design would be best, most sided with an eight-foot tall vertical fence, followed by a steel cable net extending 20 feet from underneath the span.

The Bridge District board could decide on a barrier design as early as October.
