HIV screening to be covered under new law

The state legislature passed a bill Tuesday that would require health insurers in California to cover routine HIV screening tests.

The California Office of AIDS says an estimated 40,000 people in California do not know that they are infected with HIV.

The governor's press office says he has not taken a position on the bill, but he will not sign anything until a state budget is passed. He has until Sept. 30 to take action on the measure.
